SARDAR MALUK SINGH SANDHU ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE SCHOLARSHIP

2022 Scholarship

In honor of the late Maluk Singh Sandhu, a yearly scholarship will be awarded for academic excellence.  

Who was Maluk Singh Sandhu?


Maluk was born on July 1, 1916 in a village named Chabba which is located in Sheikhupura.  Sheikhupura was in India before 1947, but is now located in Pakistan.  Maluk attended Khalsa Primary School which was located in Sheikhupura, Pakistan.  When he was 10 years old, he and his family moved to Burma (Myanmar).  Maluk attended Wesleyan Methodist Mission Boys High School and later attended the Intermediate College Mandalay where he received a Faculty of Arts (F.A).  In 1948, he received a Bachelor’s of Arts in English literature, History of Burma Commonwealth, and History of Burma and Far East from Rangoon University (now University of Yangon), which is located in Burma (Myanmar).


Maluk was an advocate for education. He encouraged his grandchildren and great-grandchildren to pursue higher education.  To him, education was one of the most valuable assets one can have.  


To honor the life and legacy of Maluk Singh Sandhu, we will be offering the Sardar Maluk Singh Sandhu Academic Excellence Scholarship in February 2022.  


Scholarship criteria will be available on or about February 2022.  Scholarships will be awarded June 2022.

Please note that this scholarship will be open to undergraduate and graduate students in all majors, and will need to show proof of financial or economic need.
